Maya Farm’s founders understood that most people have the time to duplicate those Instagram worthy meals. Every day our society cares more and more about what they put into their bodies. The motivation behind healthy nutrition is to obtain the necessary nutrients that our bodies need to function effectively. Do you remember the quote ¨eating with your eyes¨?
Maya Farm truly believes that dishes should be visually appealing. The consistency, color and composition are what we see first. Your visual sense can dictate how your other senses respond towards a meal you already like by how it looks.
How often do you see a waiter walking in a restaurant with someone’s meal and you think ¨¡That dish looks yummy¨!? There is a connection between the mind and the mouth. Currently restaurants need to be mindful with how meals are presented to their customers. Microgreens have opened doors for chefs all over the world because they make a great garnish for their dishes. Microgreens can add that extra pop of flavor, color and texture. They are called ¨micro¨ because they are only 1-2 inches in length. Microgreens are usually very tender, flavorful and packed with nutrients. Lets not forget how much better a plate looks when it has micro greens on top.
Maya Farm saw that Guatemala’s market was lacking this product, so in 2018 they started their company with the mission of providing microgreens to professional chefs and individuals that desire to have that extra boost in their meals in a sustainable way.
¨ Most organic food is expensive because of the amount of time that it takes to grow them. They take longer to grow compared with a non organic process. We believe that you are what you eat. We wanted to provide the Guatemalan market with the tools to have high quality ingredients to include in their cooking¨.
The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry showed in a research article that “Microgreens do contain a higher concentration of many nutrients when compared with the mature, fully grown vegetables or herbs.” Part of the nutritional benefits found in Microgreens are: antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Maya Farm wanted to communicate and educate their audience about this product, so they used their social media platforms to do exactly that.
¨ We don't provide only the Microgreens ready to use, but we also equip the technology that allows people to harvest these plants by themselves. Our system makes Microgreens process sustainable because they’ll continue to grow with the correct maintenance. When a client buys our product we give them all the needed information yield the best harvest ”
Maya Farm saw an opportunity to improve the food industry in Guatemala. Many local restaurants and chefs showed interest in implementing Microgreens into their menus and dishes. Our social media strategy for Maya Farm included successful partnerships with restaurants that were using these products to enhance the food presented to their clients. The photos and videos obtained presented the Microgreens in their full splendor.
The partnerships allowed a successful collaboration between the brands and triggered a cross promotion exposing Maya Famr to a much bigger audience. Partnering with the correct brand can increase the return on your social media marketing investment.
¨ By showing what local chefs were creating with our Microgreens we opened many doors to grow. People wanted to have their own harvests at home to incorporate in their daily diet. We even had the opportunity to sell Microgreens in local supermarkets.¨
Maya Farm’s social media grew exponentially with the collaborations posts. The reason to its success is due to the community approval of the product and the attractiveness of the videos.
